This is an opportunity for a dynamic counselor to empower survivors of domestic violence and make an impact in our communities.
This position provides counseling, group sessions, advocacy, crisis intervention, safety planning, information, referrals, and related services to survivors of domestic violence.
Responsibilities:
Offers individual counseling, information/referrals, advocacy, safety planning, and crisis intervention both in person and via telehealth.
Maintain a caseload of 20-25 clients weekly.
Understand, communicate, and assist with domestic violence processes when appropriate, including orders of protection, hearings, court-related matters, and victim's compensation applications.
Develop and maintain positive working relationships with community providers.
Provide domestic violence-centered education and training when needed.
Meet identified annual program goals, including new clients, individual sessions, family sessions, and group sessions.
Local travel when necessary.
Qualifications:
Enthusiasm for the mission of the Violence Prevention Center and the survivors we serve.
MA/MS in counseling, social work, or closely related field.
Licensed or preparing for licensure is preferred.
Excellent oral and written communication skills.
Counseling/advocacy training and experience.
Ability to work with diverse populations.
Capacity to work independently while in collaboration with a team.
Illinois Certified Domestic Violence Professional or must become certified within 18 months.
Valid driver's license required.
Hours:
A flexible 40-hour schedule including two evenings per week.
A four-day work week and/or hybrid remote options are available for this position.
Compensation:
This position offers a salary range of $40,000-$45,0000 with a benefits package including health, dental, and life insurance, paid time off, and retirement plan options.

The Violence Prevention Center of Southwestern Illinois (VPC) works to eliminate domestic violence in individual lives and society as a whole.
The agency believes that all people have the right to be free from harm, to be respected, and to determine and pursue their own goals.
Operating with these values allows the VPC to meet clients where they are and empowers survivors to heal from trauma.
The VPC accomplishes this through survivor-led support services, including a 24-hour crisis hotline, counseling, legal advocacy, emergency housing, and rapid rehousing.
These life-saving services are essential to the survivors of domestic violence we serve and provide clients with the best opportunities to create lasting safety and peace in their lives.

The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
